| **Note from Garth** Fred Wintle got a hold of me and told the following story. He has since shared his narrative and it is found in its full length without edit (aside from html) at this site. Fred Wintle was born on opening day of deer hunting season October 21,1952. He arrived screaming his infant lungs out in the delivery room of Plummer Memorial Hospital in Dexter, Maine atop a prominent hill on High Street. (Some still wish he'd quit screaming.) Fred attended local schools through his High School graduation in 1971 fromDexter Regional High School. In 1993 he returned to Dexter to live for two years after a 20-year stint in theUnited States Air Force. After a time he began life anew in Garland Maine where he now resides with his current wife the former Joan Joly of Danielson, Connecticut. Fred has two children, Sarah 21 and Ben \par 15. \par Ben lives with his Mom Sally Flanders in Corinna Maine while Sarah is a senior at Saint Joseph's College in Windham, Maine. Joan's children Lori, Todd, and Shea are all grown and spread across the world. Lori lives in Georgia, Todd lives in Australia and Shea will soon be residing in California. Fred has enjoyed some success as a freelance writer and calls his short narratives his passion driven by his sense of the importance of family and hometown history that he feels needs to be captured for posterity. | Okay, I've taken a look around and I don't see anyone
who seems to fit into what I've found out about my family
tree. So I guess I'll give my family history (as much as
I know of it) and if anyone can help fill in more of the
missing pieces or locate any other people directly
related, I'd appreciate the help, especially 'cause I'd
like to trace my roots back to England, where I'm told we
Wintles are from. The following is what I've been told: My grandfather was Monroe Wintle (PopPop), and I don't know what his parents' names were. He had a brother, Howard, and a sister, Agnes. From what I understand, Agnes took care of their ailing parents in the family home in Wyoming, PA. I don't know if she ever married or had any children. Howard had a son, Thomas Wintle, who lives/lived in Trenton, NJ. He had twin children. PopPop married Dorothy Eike (Nanny Wintle). Both had been married previously, though I don't know to whom. Dorothy had a daughter by her previous marriage; that would be my Aunt Marilyn (Johnson) Kirby. My grandfather had a son, Monroe Wintle, Jr (Monte) by his previous wife. PopPop and Nanny Wintle had my father, Robert Allen Wintle, making Monte and Marilyn half-brother and half-sister to him. Both of my grandparents passed away in the mid to late seventies, when I was still in the lower grades of grammar school Monte married Nerline Radler, and they had four children: William, Stephanie, Helen, and Robert John Wintle. Though Monte died, his wife and all four children are still alive. William is married and lives in Minnesota. Stephanie is married and lives/lived in Colorodo. When we last heard, Helen and her mother were living in Virginia, and Robert lives in the Poconos in eastern PA. Because my Aunt Marilyn isn't a Wintle (she's an Eike), I won't go into detail about her life here, but anyone who wishes her part of the family tree can e-mail me. My father grew up in Wyoming, PA and married MaryAnn Ketchel, whom he met while attending West Pittston High School. They had three children, Robert John, Richard Allen, and myself, Patricia Ann. When my brothers were very young, they moved from Pennsylvania to Edison, NJ, and when my mother's father died in 1972 when I was one, they moved to a house in Spotswood, NJ and Gram Ketchel came to live with all of us. They lived in that house until March 1997, when they sold it, and shortly thereafter, decided to separate. My father, now 52, lives in Hamilton Township (just outside Trenton), and my mother, 51, lives in Jackson, NJ. My older brother Robert, 32, has always been affectionately called "Butch". He is married to JoMarie Moss and they are anxiously expecting the birth of their first child in late March/early April. They live in South River, NJ. My middle brother Rick, 30, married Kimberly Kollath and they live in Jackson, NJ with their adorable daughter, Jillian Nicole, age 1 1/2. Although I have always been called "Patty" by family members, it is not my nickname of choice - since high school, I have preferred to be addressed as "Trish". I am 26, and married Charles M. Bohrman III on November 11, 1995. We have a beautiful 2-1/2 year old son, Christopher Michael, birthdate July 27, 1995, and we live in Keasbey, NJ (part of Woodbridge Township). in Spotswood, NJ |

| My father was Jack Ernest Wintle (1912-1991), who was
born in South Dakota, USA. His father, Edwin Ernest
Wintle (1880-1944) emigrated from England to Canada and
then to South Dakota when he was about 16 years old. His
brother William George Reginald Wintle joined him later.
I believe they went there to stay with a Cook family,
somehow related. Edwin Ernest became a salesman in
wholesale grocery products. I THINK EEWintle was the son
of George Wintle and Kate Cook Wintle of Lydney,
Gloucestershire, but there were apparently a couple
Ernest Wintles born about the same time. The family does
not seem too inventive with names. There is a family
tradition that Edwin and his brother were raised by an
Aunt Taylor who ran something called the Nag's Head Pub.
Since I've also heard of the Wintle brewery and Wintle
Ale, I assume that's the family trade. I have strayed
from the trade and am currently Senior Minister of the
First Parish Church in Weston, Massachusetts, a suburb of
Boston. Hope this isn't too much, Garth! You are good to maintain this page for all the rest of us. Why don't you arrange a family reunion in, oh, probably Gloucestershire or the Cotswolds? |

| I am Robert J. Wintle Sr., born 8-26-20 in Pittsburg, Ks., to Alfred E. & Mable {Peck} Wintle. My great grandfather was Alfred Wintle of Oldcroft, he died Feb.11. 1897 in west Yorkshire. He came to the US in 1881 with three young sons. They were Walter, James and one name unknown. He did not stay in the US many years, he took the one son back to England with him, leaving Walter and Jimmy. I have no information about the boy's mother. My grandfather [Walter] stayed in Ks and was a hoistiing engineer in the coal mines. James went to Oklahoma and I remember going to Owasso {near Tulsa} with my father to visit his cousins when I was just a young lad. I have no more info about James. Walter married Jennie Stanley of Cherryvale, Ks Mar.11, 1886 and had eight children as follows; Charles 1889, Thomas 1891, Walter 1893,Harry 1896, Hazel 1896 {twins}, Alfred 1898 {my father}, Fred 1900, and John {Jack} 1903. All are deceased but Fred, he is 99 and doing well. I believe my grandfather's family were coal miners in England. | I was born in Parsons, KS to Robert(Bob)Wintle Jr. and Diana Wintle in 1981. I have an older sister, Emily Wintle Muninger, who is now married. My younger brother, Bobby (RJW 3rd), and sister ,Amy, still live at home with Mom and Dad. Bobby is in a Christian Band ,In Your Honor, and is finishing LCC. Amy is a Freshman in highschool this year. After Grandpa(Robert J. Wintle, Sr.) died in Jan. 2000, I left Parsons to start my own life. Eventually I moved home and then left again. I now live in Rogers, AR ,by myself, and now realize that everything I was searching for is back home in Parsons. Please keep updating our family history.
