I was born in 1933 in Carlton, Victoria, Australia.  Most of my working life was spent in the Royal Australian Navy and I am now self employed.  My wife Helen is originally a New Zealander and we are both keen on boating and photography.
My father was Norman Hector Wintle, born in Richmond 1910, Melbourne, Australia and my grandfather was Robert William Wintle born in 1871 in Ballarat, also Victoria Australia.
My great grandfather was Richard Freeman Wintle, born in 1845 in Derby England and here the trail runs a little cold.
If anyone else has ancestors originating from Derby I would appreciate information.

I'm a PhD student at the University of Melbourne. I study forest wildlife ecology. I have a weakness for procrastination, so when my girlfriend sent me this web-site I couldn't resist. I'm really interested to find out the origin of the name Wintle, ie. Where it comes from and what it means. If anyone has a good story I'd like to hear it! I was born in Melbourne in 1971 to Paul and Julie Wintle. I have a beautiful sister called Bonnie. She is now 22. There are a lot of Wintles in Melbourne who are related to my father.

I am a hopelessly inbred descendant of the Wintles of Mitcheldean, Gloucester. My grandmother was Phyllis Wintle who married her second cousin, Charles Percy Woolley, son of Sophia Wintle. I am thus descended twice over from Thomas Wintle 1801-1848 innkeeper of the Red Lion in Mitcheldean and his wife Sophia Harris Coleman, also of Mitcheldean. I am the first emigrant of the family and live on a farm in New South Wales where we breed and ride event horses. What do I do on those long winter evenings miles from town? Research my family history on the internet of course!

Ian Wintle: Born 1945, United Kingdom
Father: Robert Aubrey Wintle
Branch: Gloucester Wintles
Grandfather: Harold Wintle
I arrived in Australia in 1963 with my parents. Married Judith in 1968. Two sons, Scott (1973) & Warrick (1974). I served in the Royal Australian Airforce from 1966 - 1986. I am now a community Corrections Officer. My fathers brother lived in Melbourne and he had several children so I believe we have cousins around that area. I have always been told that my grandfather traced our family tree back to the Norman Conquest of Britain.

My father Robert Aubrey Wintle was in the RAF during WW11 and served for a few years at the 'Moose Jaw' base. While there he dated a girl called 'Betty Duncan'. The reason I remember her name so well was that after the war we had rationing in the UK and Chocolates were unknown. Betty Duncan always used to send a big selection of Chocolates every Christmas, we were the envy of the street. That has always remained in my memory. I often wonder if Betty Duncan is still alive? Any Wintle detectives out there? My e-mail is ijwintle@netsprint.net.au

My name is Jonathan Wintle and at present I am travelling the world and am now in Melbourne Australia. I was born in Cuckfield , East Sussex in England in 1968 and have lived in Somerset, Kent and most recently in the Channel Islands.
I do have a family tree back in the CI, which dates back to Thomas Wintle born in Gloucestershire in 1765 ( If I remember ). Does any one out there have anything that will take the tree further back than that? I really wish I could spend more time and perhaps with all our input we can be united!!.
Also are there Wintles in Melbourne or Australia that might want to meet up. Give me an Email. I will be in Melbourne until 20 December 2000.
Reagrds to you all.

Hello Wintle's of the world!!! I was just searching the web to see if I could find any interesting sites regarding Wintle's and discovered this jem. My name is Josephine and I am just completing a Master's Degree in Organisational Psychology at Monash University. I am a cousin of Brenden who is also listed on this site. I am the daughter of John Wintle and Robin Ring. Our grandfather was Bert (Bertrand)Wintle and Grandmother Mary (Molly)Wintle (maiden name Peters). I live in Melbourne and have come across a few other Wintle's that are not directly related to me. I have two brothers,Benjamine and Daniel and a twin sister Katrina. Another discovery that I made today was that the Port Phillip Herald (a Melbourne newspaper)has some news items regarding Wintle's that were published in 1844 & 1845, as far as my Dad advises me I am a 7th generation Australian, so Wintle's have been in Melbourne for quite some time! I would enjoy hearing about some of the other hist! orical adventures of Wintles!

My maiden name was Wintle, and I have two brothers, Adrian Ivo who lives here in Australia, and Martin Eliot who lives in France. My father was Ivo Roland Wintle, and his father was Reginald Ernest Wintle, of Western Australia. The Western Australian Wintles came from Newport, Monmouthshire. John and his wife Catherine Eliza had children when they arrived, and more were born here. They were Charles, Frederick, Edward, Reginald, Clarice, Rosamond and Gwendolyn. The present generation of Wintles include Roland, Derek, Edwina and Reginald, children of Adrian Wintle. I am interested in the history of the Wintle line, especially who was the father of John Wintle? Thanks for the work you do,
