Hello Wintles! What a great page. My father was Leonard Wintle, brothers Ron and Bert. Their parents were Bert and Edith, Edith's father was from New York city, but originally from Wales. I was interested to see Wintle means from the Windy Hill because i currently live on one! The Old Melbourne Jail used to be called Wintle's Hotel because a Wintle was the Governer there. Would love to hear from any Wintle. Best wishes Garth & keep up the good work.

I stumbled on your site by accident, and am fascinated with it. My Grandmother was Daisy Wintle, related to the Wintles in Deloraine, MB and Dryden, ON. She married Michael McDonald and had 4 children (actually I think she had 5 but one died) Marie, Joan, Fred and Donald. Marie is my mother, she married Donald MacDonald, and had 3 girls, Patricia, Maureen and Heather (me). I don't recall all the names of the Deloraine Wintles (Fred and George come to mind, but I can't be sure) but my mother would know who they all were.

I am researching the life and works of Henry Saxelby Melville Wintle, born in England in c1800 and died on 22.xii.1873. He is said to be 'one of the fathers of the Tasmanian press'. He lived and wrote as Henry Melville [aka 'Henricus']. Arriving in Hobart Town in February 1828, he had followed his brother, Samuel Henry Wintle [also recorded as S J Wintle], a shoemaker who had preceded him to Tasmania by some five years. Henry married a Miss Eliza Romney Fisher at New Norfolk on 4.ii.1832. She was the only daughter of Joseph Fisher of Philadelphia, USA. There is no recorded issue from this marriage. Henry left Tasmania about 1849 and returned to the UK, where he worked steadily on his 'magnum opus', 'Veritas', a treatise on freemasonry and astrology which was published posthumously. I would be pleased to learn of any other details of H S M Wintle's life which may be known by the family. regards Neil Wynes Morse Canberra, Australia

I like to reminess and by travelling on your maps of the Wabigoon ( rocks and bouys ) hazzards try to remember my way long ago to various lakes and bays. To make my long story longer can you provide me direction from the Gov't Dock (south end of Van Horne) to the island where Wink, Chuck and Bud built the first cabin? I remember going by snowshoe and by boat east of Anderson and maybe perhaps the island where the Indains laid there dead aboce ground back in the early 50's......

I am very familiar with the works of four Wintles; three of them London Silversmiths, Samuel (1783) George (1804-1813+) and Jacob (1826- 1848+). Frederick Holmes Wintle (1855-1925) may also be from this solid silver smith family. I collect their work whenever I can afford an item. My only other claim to Wintle-dom is Christopher ( Julian's son) and I were in the same House at Stowe School in the early 1960's.

My Father, Brian Wintle (deceased) was born in Gloucestershire and his family moved to the west midlands. For anyone who is interested I discovered from library resources that the mane Derives from the word Windhill. A mound exposed to strong gusts. I guess our ancestors must have lived on hills or somethimg (der) Well in Lancashire it became Windle, and in Gloucestershire it became Wintle as it is today. So there you go. any wintles in New york City or Brooklyn, Queens or Bronx, Contact me via this web page. I recently moved here and it would be great to hear from you.

I am listed in the Wintle Australia page and now have a new E-Mail address. Your site is great, and very interesting to see so many Wintle's around the world. Our anscestors must of had a lot of spirit to move away from the home country and settle far away. I know that I very much admire my parents who sold everything in 1962 to move from UK to Australia, mainly to give their sons a better life-which they did. I think it is the Viking blood. I will fill in your form eventually, I was born in Aberystwyth, in Wales in 1968. There is no mention of the Wintles of Wales on your page. I have a great aunt was making a family tree, I am trying to get a copy, I have been told that it goes back 5 generations. when I get all the information I need I will contact you again. I did find it interesting that there was another Christopher Mark Wintle born within a month of me, I discovered that he even uses the same bank!

Hey, I am actually trying to find the Wintle that has the Riding Stables. I believe it is Lisa. She was my coach in SLKT many years ago and I would love to take up riding again. Please let me know if you can help me locate whoever it is that I am looking for. I have left messages on the stables machine but no one ever calls back and no one ever answers the phone. I am sorry to waste your time if you do not know who it is that I am looking for. but it's sure nice to see someone from a small town take so much pride in his community. keep up the good work.

Hello, there just happen to come across your site when looking for something for my husband, Gary. Since he is a big fan of Dryden I thought I would put my two cents in for him too. I was looking for Bill Higgins of Sandy Point Camp/Resort just to say hi to him from my husband. I think his son runs the place and dad has retired. My husband goes to this camp every year (sometimes two times) for about the last 25 years. I was up there in 1976 but I am kind of hooked on shopping over fishing so I haven't been back to the area. So if you see anyone from Sandy Point Camp, pass on a hi for us. I also happen to be in the fire business sort of, I am a police and fire dispatcher and I get to tell everyone to go. Nice talking to ya.

Hi! Iam not part of your family tree, but I was born in Dryden at the end of May or early June 1957. My birth was Leanne but I do not know if my mother registered in the hospital or if she had me at home her name was Therese Regimbald. My suppossed father was Andre or Andy Patient. I have tried before to get info but I seem to get nowhere I would like to know if there is an archive department with the Dryden Hospital or how coul go about finding some type of birth record. I am adopted an it is very hard to get any type of information. I am not looking for my birth mother I have no interest in meeting her so any type of info that would be avaible to even if they black out her name I dont care. If you have any suggestion please let me know. Thank you in advance Liliane Patient

Hey Mr. Wintle! It was by a lovely accident that I came apon your page. Let me tell you all about it, as you appear to welcome additions to your guestbook! I was just, ho-hum, searching the Internet in quest for the perfect neat and nifty tidbit on the hometown dwelling of my two favorite NHL players, Sean and Chris Pronger. Woah doggies! Then I arrived at your page! Aye, an epidemic of Dryden facts! I've looked up Dryden before, many months past to be exact, and was woefully disappointed. Nothing, spit, nada, capoot. You can't help but imagine my utter shock and excitement when I found the valley of which mists your Dryden knowledge! Look-it, you've got some great stuff here. You're on a roll. Add more to this! This is what the PEOPLE want to see! I never knew Dryden came about as a gold town. Information as such is exactly what I seek! To my delight I've come to learn much more about your lovely area than I could have imagined all within the boundries of these here pages! And it is nice to know where to get some good, fruitful fishing done, you know? Not that I fish or anything but if I ever wanted to you've made quite the case for Dryden so I'll keep an open mind if I ever make it up to Canada and have remembered to pack my waitors! The next time my Pronger surfing magically runs smack-dab into your corner of the Net, I hope to to be rewarded with yet more exciting facts about Dryden! Carry on with your good research! Find pride in that your hard work has been noted and applauded by this St. Louis area gal! Thanks for the info, go Blues, and party on, Garth!

Hello...just thought I would say hi and to say it's sure nice to see Dryden on the Internet. I used to live there back in the 80's, until I moved to Windsor, and now residing in Toronto. Would like to hear from old friends who might remember me to stay in contact via the internet, my email is ( ). Hope to visit Dryden, my hometown soon, until then take care all. I did go to Dryden High up until October '80, that is when I moved to southern Ontario...Windsor to be exact.

Hi There! I used to live in Dryden, I know your sister (?) Kathy Wintle. When I see the moose I think of the old museum on the highway. Chowbella!
